Leeds University Business School

Leeds, UK630 seats

We fitted out these two teaching rooms in the new Esther Simpson Building at Leeds University with tiering, seating and writing surfaces.

This is a brand new building for the business school, designed to give students a technology-based, participative learning experience to equip them for the global economy.

The two spaces are designed for different teaching styles, and look very different as a result.   The first room is a more traditional large lecture theatre, fitted with tiering and our Espace 628T chairs. This light, fresh space is a far cry from the wood-panelled lecture theatres of the past. Special features here included extra large writing tablets and power sockets neatly attached to the chair beams. We also designed the tiering to accommodate air diffusers.

The second room is a dual purpose teaching space which can switch instantly between taught and group learning. The Accolade chairs are fitted on to 360 degree swivel mechanisms, allowing students to group together for collaborative work. The curved aspect of the desks adds to the spirit of cooperation.

In both spaces we also provided wheeled desks to help wheelchair users to easily access the space.
