Grand Theatre chooses Icon Chairs

There are a busy few weeks ahead at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre – without so much a single performance in sight. The theatre’s auditorium is right now being stripped ready for the installation of some brand new and improved seats.

Audience Systems will be installing our recently launched Icon seat, a hugely adaptable theatre chair which has at its core three key features: a quiet soft-close mechanism to reduce noise in the auditorium, a strong, durable low-maintenance design, and a backrest designed and tested specifically for audience comfort.

To maintain the traditional look of the auditorium, the chairs will be rich in beautiful dark timber elements, including armrests, row end panels and curved show wood backs. They will be upholstered in a wine-coloured fabric to maintain the classic aesthetics of this Grade II listed auditorium.

In an interview with broadwayworld.com, the theatre’s Chief Executive, Adrian Jackson said: “The Grand Theatre is a significant part of city centre life within Wolverhampton. Adding the replacement of the auditorium seating to the grand scheme will be the ‘icing on the cake’. The level of comfort of the new seats, together with the revised layouts will greatly improve accessibility and comfort for our audience”.

The overall restoration project, costing £1.1 million, and also including the refurbishment of the bar, will be unveiled at a grand opening in the autumn.

The Icon chair was developed to offer clients a well-designed and comfortable theatre chair which they can adapt to suit the style of their auditorium. By changing and adapting key elements, the chair can be equally at home in traditional or contemporary venues. Audience Systems encourages clients to work with us to develop their own take on the design, ensuring every venue has a chair which perfectly suits its needs.
