The Trusts Stadium - BackgroundThe Trusts Stadium is designed to be a focal point for sport and recreation in Waitakere City. The indoor 6-court stadium is the centrepiece, with the emphasis on participation as well as spectating.
A flexible and efficient retractable seating solutionWith multiple uses in mind, Audience Systems and their New Zealand representative, Maxwood Manufacturing, worked with the Waitakere Regional Sports Trust to create a suitably flexible audience seating layout, which included retractable elements. The upper balcony area was fitted with fixed spectator seating, and below this a total of 25 TX telescopic platform units were installed in 4 large banks, one each side of the hall. At the touch of a button, each of the four banks of retractable seating opens and closes as one, allowing the whole venue to be quickly transformed from a multi-court sports centre to a modern auditorium for local entertainment events.
Alpha chairs were used throughout both the fixed and telescopic seating areas; when the TX units are open and in use, only the most observant of spectators will notice the transition from concrete tiering to retractable platforms. Plastic Alpha chairs have a double skinned, blow moulded seat and back - the double skin provides not only enhanced strength, but also superior comfort to similar single skinned chairs.
The $26million stadium will be the new home of the Harvey Norman NZ Breakers.
