Background - The Other SpaceThe Other Space is a very different type of theatre. Quite in contrast to the grand, traditional Victorian main auditorium of Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre, the Other Space is a "black box" studio theatre which is contemporary, flexible and above all accessible. The venue is used by a wide variety of visitors including schools, youth groups and community groups as well as playing host to touring theatre companies.
The theatre had been using a combination of removable rostra and removable interlinking chairs as their seating solution. Installing and removing this solution, which also involved attaching batons round the edges of the rostra for safety, was a lengthy process, and storage of the rostra when not in use was problematic.
A Flexible Retractable Seating SolutionRetractable seating was the obvious solution for this multipurpose space, and TX Telescopic Platform Seating proved ideal - with its fast turnaround time, it can be quickly and easily rolled back for impromptu sessions and rehearsals. Sports Seat 4 Bench seating was chosen to work in sympathy with the venue's 'studio theatre' feel and for its flexibility for audiences of all ages. To reflect the venue's spirit of accessibility, the T-Access system was included, which allows sections of the front row to be locked away to accommodate wheelchair users. |
