King Arthur's is a specialist sports college in Somerset, UK. When the school was granted funding for a brand new sports centre for use by both the pupils and members of the local community, the school decided to convert their old, traditional gymnasium into a modern performance space, incorporating retractable auditorium seating.
The space can be used for drama, dance, music or sport and also for multimedia presentations - it is equipped with the latest interactive whiteboard equipment and a sprung floor for dance.
A Flexible Seating Solution
For the spectator seating, mobile TX telescopic units were chosen for true flexibility. This retractable seating system can be fully closed away, or arranged in a number of formations - from a straight formation to maximise the performance space, to an angled formation to optimise audience sight lines. The TX units were supplied with hydraulic trucks which can be inserted under the closed platforms enabling the seating to be manoeuvred into any chosen position.

A simple manual opening facility was chosen; the retractable units are relatively small and can be opened smoothly and safely by two men using pulling handles which slot into the front of the units.
The school have been impressed not only with the performance, value and flexibility of the seating, but also with the support they received from Audience Systems.
"Audience Systems provided excellent service and competitive pricing. The sales and projects managers and engineers were all professional and extremely helpful."
